Even though your teeth are usually very strong, there are many things that can cause a fracture:

  • Biting something hard
  • Falling
  • Cavities that have weakened your tooth
  • Being hit your face or your mouth

What should I do?

When a tooth fractures, big or small, you might not feel any pain. Luckily most of the time your tongue will identify the sharp edge very quickly. If a large piece of your tooth breaks, you may have some nerve damage which will result in severe pain. Regardless of the fracture it is best to consult your local lakeland dentist.

In the mean time there a few things you can do to relieve the pain of your fractured tooth:

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • Apply a cold pack to your cheek or lips over the broken tooth; this will significantly help you reduce swelling and relieve the pain.
  • Rinse with a saline solution to clean food particles from a broken tooth. Do not use alcohol.
  • You can also use an over the counter pain reliever temporarily.
